What is Stalking? 

The legal definition of stalking is defined primarily by state statutes. While statutes vary, most define stalking as a course of conduct that places a person in fear for their safety.

Stalking behaviors can include:

  • Non-consensual communication, including face-to-face, telephone calls, voice messages, electronic mail, written letters, unwanted gifts, etc.
  • Threatening or obscene gestures
  • Pursuing or following
  • Surveillance or other types of observation
  • Trespassing
  • Vandalism
  • Non-consensual touching
  • Asking people you know about your habits and/or whereabouts
