Volunteer to Answer Calls to the Crisis Helpline
Crisis Helpline volunteers work hand-in-hand with staff members to make sure that no call to the 24-hour helpline goes unanswered. As a Crisis Helpline volunteer, you provide compassionate attention while connecting callers to the most appropriate referrals and resources. Your help covering the helpline is particularly needed overnight and on the weekends.
Requirements of Service
- There are mandatory multi-session training programs held in January, May and August each year. An option to the training program is providing proof of equivalent training and experience. The Safe Connections training program incorporates collaborative instruction provided through the Missouri Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence with our own curriculum. This comprehensive approach builds the knowledge, skills and confidence which are crucial to providing callers with the best possible support. The next available training will be held at the end of May. Contact Katie Flaschar for more information.
- Once the training program has been completed, volunteers must be able to volunteer a minimum of 12 hours a month for one year. (Hours may be worked in one shift or spread out in a variety of shifts as short in duration as two hours.)
Complete and submit the online application at the bottom of the page or Download, fill out and fax (or scan and email) your volunteer application now. (PDF/1.3M)
Applications received outside the six-week application window will be kept. Safe Connections staff will contact you to confirm your application during the next enrollment period. To learn more about answering calls on the Crisis Helpline, contact Katie Flaschar at 314.646.7500 x123.
